About

My name is Julie and I am the Texan New Yorker.  I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas.  I lived there for 24 years until I moved to New York.  I’ve been up here for 8 years, living in Newark, NJ, Long Island, and mostly Queens.

This blog is about my culinary journey from being a myopic, finicky eater with no food conscience, to transforming into a grown-up who loves cooking, food, adventurous eating, and cares deeply about where food comes from.  This is my expression of my love for cooking and trying new things.  In my mid-twenties, I made the conscious choice to learn how to cook and stop being a picky eater.  I wanted to be healthier, and I wanted to eat vegetables.  I bought some cookbooks, turned on Food Network, and just dove in headfirst.  Not only did I discover that cooking is very achievable, I tapped into a passion I never knew I had.  My culinary journey is very much about finding my own identity, maturing into a balanced, healthy woman, and finding the courage to be who I am.  I will always love and cherish Texas cuisine and I make it often.  But now I am much more adventurous in what I will cook and eat.  New York, great melting pot that it is, has introduced me to so many different ethnic dishes and ingredients.  I incorporate them into my kitchen often.

Thank you for reading my blog.  I appreciate you taking this journey with me.  I can promise you deliciousness, fun, creativity, and adventure.
